Family Vacation

We just got back from vacation on Wednesday. It seemed so much easier now that Chase is a little older. The kids all enjoyed each activity equally, which probably won't last too many more years as Britta is 10. We went to Omaha, so the first attraction was the Henry Doorly Zoo. Highly recommended! Chase found Nemo! I heard another girl run up to the tank and say the same thing.

Tate was a little "freaked out" (his own words) seeing the sharks swimming above and around us in the aquarium.

Sammy bought this purple monkey at the end of our zoo visit, and she wore it quite a bit during the rest of the vacation. The girls were so excited to bring along some of their own money, and we had quite the discussions about how much money they'd spent, how much they planned to spend at the next attraction, and how much they had left. They carried their purses nearly everywhere, and neither was lost!

Our campsite had no grass, but across the road--a huge sandpile! This alone would have been enough for the boys to have a wonderful vacation.

Sammy still doesn't know about Britta's giving her bunny ears in this photo. The girls swam a lot and I noticed a lot of improvement in their strokes! It didn't hurt that they made a friend named Abby who happened to be on a swim team . . .

We spent a lot of time in the pool--Chase got confident enough with his balance in his floaty suit; by the end of vacation he was climbing in by himself and swimming to the deep end!

Our other big day was at the Omaha Children's Museum. It was wonderful--the kids played from 10am to 5pm with a short break for lunch. The activities were varied; Glen and I each took a boy and checked in on the girls frequently. There were a lot of "pretend" activities (grocery store, fire station, etc), learning activities, science activities, book readings, crafts, dress-up, do-it-yourself face painting, and a whole Bob the Builder exhibit.

Glen did an imitation of Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back--hope you're old enough to remember that. :)

Tate did an imitation of Glen's imitation of Han Solo.

Chase drew a smiley face on the giant Magna Doodle at the Omaha Children's Museum. The funny thing is, he wasn't meaning to draw the features he drew the way he drew them--he'd say, "this is a nose . . ." as he drew what looked like an eye, etc. The funny thing was, he ended up with a recognizable smiley face! He doesn't stay still long enough to color much, so I don't think he's ever actually drawn one.
Before we left, Tate said he wished we could stay in Nebraska forever.
I finished the rest of the laundry today (except for Glen's sleeping bag which is still in the camper). He's been mowing ever since we got back, except for when he took all four kids to the doctor yesterday while I was at work so the oldest 3 could have checkups. :) Back to the business! Next big thing is a trip to Des Moines for Tate's eye surgery on Monday morning. Keep him in your prayers!
