Fire Drill

Glen mentioned at dinner tonight that we should have a fire drill (it's his night off). My reply was--it's too cold! Summer is a good time for fire drills. Then I thought maybe it would be a good night, since the first time we ever had one he did it right before leaving for work. The girls were so worked up and had so many questions that I had to deal with. "Mom, what about our money? What about your MAKEUP????" Anyway, I kind of forgot about it. The kids were in bed, and Glen walked into the office and said, "Ready to wake up the kids?" He pushed the button on the smoke detector, and the fire drill began. He went to get the kids out of bed (Sammy got right up and went to the front door; Britta stayed in bed yelling "Turn it off! Turn it off!" The boys stayed in bed (normal reaction for their age), and Glen carried them to the front door. Meanwhile, I stood on a chair in the office trying to cover my ears and keep the button pushed at the same time. Glen was nice and didn't make the kids actually go outside, but he instructed them that if they went to the front door and smelled smoke, they should head outside to our designated meeting place. I'm not sure if I would have done it on a school night if it had been up to me, but if it had been up to me we probably would not have fire drills, not because I don't think they are valuable; I just would not get it done. Just one of the many reasons I appreciate my husband!

I already put Chase back to bed once. I can hear him out on the couch again.

I know lots has happened since my last post, and I promise to post a picture of Chase in his glasses soon!

What a good idea! I would never have thought of having a fire drill.

I haven't thought of it either. Maybe I will talk to Drew.
